Cranberry

I guess this cardigan could be called "red" but red is boring and I grew up looking at J.Crew catalogs, so I'm calling it cranberry:

Dress: c/o eShakti  Cardigan: thrifted   Tights: Spanx   Boots: Nine West "Darsy"

I know it doesn't seem like enough for cold November weather, but it's a lovely wool/silk mix and is warm as heck.  I thrifted it a couple of years ago and don't wear it nearly enough, I think because the proportions are a bit difficult to work with.

Then I remembered that I have trouble with proportions anyway so I just slapped it on over my eShakti sheath dress and some tights:

In case you were curious, the dress is oatmeal with an ink trim and the tights and boots are ebony.

Happy Friday, All!

eShakti Fall

If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have noticed that I spent part of last night Pinning the heck out of eShakti's new Fall line.  Because it is gorgeous.  Seriously, have you seen it?  I want everything!

But, as I don't have the money for everything, here's a few of my very favorite pieces.

Cowl Neck Sweater

The color of this sweater just slays me.

Gradient Houndstooth

This is dress combines a very cool, very modern gradient houndstooth print with a vintage style dress.  I love that.

Plaid Perfection

I told you I was mad for plaid and this skirt is plaid perfection.

More Houndstooth

Because you can never have enough.

Giraffes

Okay, this one isn't from their Fall line, but I think we can all agree that giraffes are great all year round.

If you're in the mood for some giraffes, or houndstooth, or plaid, head on over to eShakti.  This weekend you can get free shipping.  And, if you're a new customer, you can get a $30 new customer gift coupon by using the code GRACEY53PH.  That code is valid through November 30th.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

Stripes and Oranges

I frickin' love this eShakti dress:

It's comfy, it's flattering and it goes with everything I love.  Like huaraches and orange brooches:

Seriously; anything that goes with my beloved huaraches (thrifted) and my orange brooch (thrifted) is A-OK in my book.  Also, stripes.  Stripes are so great.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Happy Monday, All!

Bringing Huaraches Back

I've decided that I'm bringing huaraches back:

And I'm feeling pretty darned smug about it.

Pockets!!!!

Why?  Because they're super comfortable, huarache is a fun word to say and they look good with my striped dress (c/o eShakti):

See?  Stripes and huaraches; a match made in heaven.  And when you add in a neon peach belt and this gorgeous necklace...

It's like heaven is a place on earth.

Yep, you guessed it, it's Belinda Carlisle time:

My band, Neon Peach, would totally cover the heck out of this song.

And if you hadn't tried yet, you now have until 3/20/13 to use the code.  So go, buy yourself something pretty.  You deserve it.

Stripes and an eShakti Review

According to most of the fashion magazines I read, stripes are in for spring.  And wouldnt you know it, I wore stripes today:

When the lovely people at eShakti contacted me and asked me if Id like to try a piece from their Pre-Spring/Resort Line, I jumped at the chance.  There were several pieces I loved (you can see them in this post) but I ultimately decided on this cream and blue striped knit dress:

Its my first knit piece from eShakti, and its pretty great.  Its as soft and as cozy as pajamas, which is fabulous, but the lovely green belt, which came with the dress, also adds some structure.  I added a bit more structure, and some warmth (this dress is sleeveless) with a black blazer (Gap), charcoal herringbone tights (Hue) and ankle boots (Nine West Darsy).

Really my only nit to pick, and its a small one, is that this is a LOT of dress.  The skirt is pleated, and therefore pretty full, and because the fabric is a nice, heavy knit, it can be a lot.  If I had it to do again, Id probably order it a bit shorter to balance the weight of it.  This particular dress is currently out of stock, but if they re-stock and you do order it, I suggest ordering an above-the-knee length.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Shop the Look:

Pre-Spring is in the Air

Although the air is marginally warmer here in Oregon, I don't think I'll be going bare-legged any time soon.  But, that doesn't mean I can't start to think about what I am going to wear when bare legs are possible.

Happily, retailers are encouraging that sort of thinking by tempting us with their Spring offerings.  Or, in the case of online retailer, eShakti, their Pre-Spring offerings.  And they are lovely.

Here are some of my favorites from the eShakti Pre-Spring/Resort line.

For the Love of Buttons

Button Chambray Skirt

Metallic Button A-Line Dress

C'mon, Folks, They're Horses!

High Stepping Crepe Skirt

Horses!!!

Long Live Tangerine

Retro Style Poplin Dress

Sweet, But Not Saccharine

Heart-Embellished Crepe Dress

Hearts and buttons, ftw!

For When March is a Lion

Ruffled Military Style Chambray Jacket

Remember, eShakti carries up to size 36W now.  And you can always have a style altered for your longer (or shorter) arms, legs or what have you, for an additional $7.50.  And, right now, their Pre-Spring/Resort line is 30% off, but only until tomorrow.

Have any of you been looking at eShakti's Pre-Spring line?  What are your favorites?

Happy Wednesday, All!

From Swans to Stripes

On Saturday night, I attended the Pacific Northwest Bloggers Holiday Party in Portland.  I was nervous and had no idea what to wear.  I ended up in this:

Franco Sarto "Leticia" - image via Nordstrom

Why?  Well, I figured nothing says holiday like swans (except, you know, maybe Santa, holly, elves or whatever) and nothing says blogger like a blazer with pushed up sleeves, so I wore a black blazer (Gap), with the sleeves pushed up, over my swan print dress (eShakti ).  I then remembered that bloggers also enjoy pattern mixing, so I added sheer polka dot tights (Spanx via Nordstrom) to the look and finished it up with Mary Jane pumps (Franco Sarto Leticia via Nordstrom).

And I think the look was well-received.  There were so many bloggers there that I didnt actually even meet them all, but I believe my swans put those I did talk to at ease, because we chatted like old friends.  The lesson here?  Never under estimate the power of a swan dress, folks.

For today, Ive gone from swans to stripes:

But, I kept the pattern mixing because I like to maintain my blogger street cred, even while at my day job.

Todays mix comes from the striped -sleeve tee (Target) and plaid scarf (DIYd).  I also wore a red, button-front skirt (vintage, Goodwill) and gray, suede boots (Circa Joan & David via Piperlime).  I thought Id give suede a shot as it wasnt supposed to rain today; it started to rain as I took my pictures.  I love Oregon weather.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Good News and Bad News

Hello All!

I have good news and bad news to share with you all today.  Let's do the good news first, shall we?

Good News #1

One of my favorite online retailers, eShakti, is having a site-wide 40% off sale this weekend:

So, if you've been thinking about an eShakti purchase, this may be the perfect weekend to pull the trigger.

Good News #2

My cold is finally all better. I can breathe through my nose and everything.

The Bad News

I think my sinuses finally cleared because I spent much of yesterday morning in tears in the ER. I was in the ER because I had my first (and hopefully last) bike accident in nearly three years of commuting.  I swerved to avoid a car, hit a curb and went down hard.  I hit my chin and my left arm doesn't work so well (really at all) but nothing is broken, so I'm pretty thrilled about that.

I'm not sure when I'll be back to work or blogging, given my current one-armed state, but I hope by Monday or Tuesday.  I'll try to update Twitter regularly though.

Happy Saturday, All!

Yes, you've seen the Bow Ties are Cool dress on here before; what can I say?  I love it.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner

Congratulations to my eShakti Giveaway Winner:

Joy Maestas!  Joy, you do not actually win a chicken dinner, but you do win the garment of your choice from eShakti.  Which is probably the better prize anyway.  I'll put eShakti in touch with you so you can get your dress.

For the rest of you, thank you all so much for participating.  And stick around, I think I'll have another giveaway going up this weekend!

I Get a Four-Day Weekend, You Get a Giveaway

As I've mentioned about 72 times (that's only an approximation, of course), I have a four-day weekend this weekend.  But, I couldn't leave my peeps (that's you all) high and dry, so I'm hosting an eShakti giveaway!

Now, you may have already entered an eShakti giveaway on another blog.  That's okay, you can enter here too.  And it's sooooo easy.

  1. Follow Fashion for Giants.  It's usually a pretty good time.
  2. Visit eShakti and decide which one item you'd choose if you won.
  3. Like eShakti on Facebook
  4. Don't have Facebook?  You can follow eShakti on Pinterest instead.
After that, just leave me a comment letting me know which item you'd choose if you won.  And if you chose the Facebook or Pinterest route for liking/following eShakti.  See?  So easy.

What's that?  You'd like to know what I'd choose if I won?  Well, kids, lemme tell you.  I'd personally choose one of these four dresses:

The Swan Song Dress
I'm obsessed with this one.  From the print to the neckline.  Obsessed.

The Bow Ties Are Cool Dress
Check out the keyhole detail on the neckline; j'adore!

Heart Mints Shirtdress
Hearts!  Yellow buttons!  Shirtdress!  Yay!

 Make a Beeline Dress
The back of this dress is plain gray; so fun!

These are my favorites, but eShakti has dozens and dozens of dresses to choose from as well as skirts and blouses.  They carry up to a size 26 and most of the items can be customized to your measurements.  Basically, they're pretty great.

So, I hope you'll enter.  Unfortunately, it's only open to US and Canadian readers, but you have until midnight PST on May 31st to enter.  And I'll announce the winner on June 1st.  And remember, if you do win, you can even have the garment you choose customized!

Bon Chance!

Chickens and Stripes

I am, apparently, on a pattern-mixing kick this week.  Yesterday was animal and floral.  Today is chickens and stripes:

And tights.  Because, in spite of yesterdays mild weather, its both cold and rainy here today and I am, once again, forced to wear tights.  Thanks, Oregon Weather.

I wore the tights (Target) under my red chicken dress (c/o eShakti) which I layered over a blue and white striped button-down (Foxcroft, thrifted).  I added a thin brown belt (Gap) to try to rein in all the fabric around my middle and riding boots (Born Crown Sosie via Nordstrom) because I havent worn them yet this week.  I also added a watch and a couple of pieces of jewelry because sometimes I doremember to accessorize.  Sometimes.

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

Two Things I Like and an eShakti Review

If there are two things I like, they are chickens and red dresses.  In a further attempt to shake my melancholy, Ive incorporated those two things in my outfit today:

Still not a real smile, but I am trying very hard to maintain.

Again, forced, but an unsmiling me makes me cry (more).

Chickens, right?  Abstract chickens, but chickens all the same?

Yes, folks it is a red, chicken print dress.  And it was sent to me by the lovely folks at eShakti.  They contacted me and allowed me to pick at item to receive and review.  Of course I picked this dress (red and chickens, people, red and chickens) and I love it.  Its sleeveless, which helps it fit nicely under cardigans during the winter.  It has a nipped in waist, which helps me look like I do too.  And it has a nice full skirt, perfect for bike riding and during happier times, twirling.  They even added a few inches to the length of the skirt for me (more on that later).

I winterized my new, red, chicken print dress (c/o eShakti) in the usual manner.  By which I mean that I layered the dress under a cardigan (Beth Bowley via Nordstrom Rack) and over doubled tights (cream and navy via Target).  I added my riding boots (Born Crown Sosie via Nordstrom) and a braided belt (thrifted) to help maintain the waist on the dress.

Whats that?  Youve never heard of eShakti?  Well, then, lemme tell you about em.  One, they are clearly brilliant because they have the presence of mind to offer a red, chicken print dress.  Two, and I believe this is further evidence of their brilliance, they offer clothing in sizes up to 26.  Three, and this is my favorite, they offer to customize their clothing for a mere $7.50 more.

Are you, like me, a giant with long arms and legs?  eShakti has your back.  You can increase sleeve length, pant length and skirt length, etc.  Not a giant?  They can also decrease the length if thats your thing.  If you are, unlike me, endowed with a sizeable chestal arena, eShakti can help you out as well.  Uncomfortable going sleeveless?  Put a sleeve on it!  eShakti allows this option for several of their blouses and dresses; and they let you determine the sleeve length.  In truth, they have a ton of custom options for only $7.50.  (Seriously, dont tell your tailor or accusations of undercutting may begin to fly).

If you havent already tried eShakti, you should.  And to make that more of a possibility during these trying economic times, eShakti has provided me with a discount code just for Fashion for Giant readers (and, really, anyone who stumbled across this blog by accident or whatever).

So, go to eShakti, get a chicken dress of your own, or a coat or whatever tickles your fancy, use this code, FFG0811, and get $20.00 off your purchase.  The code is good until 12/31/2011.  Also, dont forget to enter my gift card giveaway.

And, have a happy Wednesday.

Gracey

P.S. Thank you all for your kind words.  I'll get over myself.  Eventually.
