Blue Nile Giveaway

Teal Abyss

So, the color of these pants is Teal Abyss:

And that kind of makes me laugh because it's an awfully dramatic name for a pants color.  It reminds me of this movie (oooh, drama). But, I appreciate that LOFT went for the drama instead of just calling it "Dark Teal" or something boring like that.

I also appreciate that LOFT made these pants at all because they're kind of fabulous.  They have a fairly high, wide waistband, so they're super comfortable and they hold their shape pretty darned well.  Also, they're teal and I'm big on teal this fall:

 Best of all, they come in Tall; although not in this color anymore.  But, they do have limited offerings in Tall in other colors and you can still get Teal Abyss in regular lengths and I recommend them for everyone; giants and non-giants alike (just make sure you line dry them).

In addition to my teal abyss pants (LOFT), I also wore a mustard sweater (thrifted, similar (tall & plus available)), black pumps (Gentle Souls "Rhemsical") and a tassel necklace (Old Navy, similar).  I thought the tone of the pants worked well with the sweater and both colors seemed perfect for a clear but cool fall day.

The Pants Formerly Known as Oxblood

Last year at this time, these pants were my "oxblood" cords.  This fall, they are my "wine" cords:

Because, apparently, oxblood is out this year.  That's not to say this color is out.  No, if you added something in this color to your wardrobe last year, rest assured you can continue to wear it this fall and winter.  But, you will need to refer to it as wine, otherwise you'll look dated. Heaven forfend.

Today I paired my oxblood wine cords (Banana Republic, similar) with a peach sweater (thrifted, similar).  I added a pair of dark teal velvet flats (Old Navy, similar) and a wool floral scarf (gifted, similar) to tie it all together.

Or something like that. 

Remember, kids; wine, not oxblood.

Double Animal and FRAAS

Oh, it's been cold here in Oregon.  Happily, the kind folks at FRAAS offered to let me try one of their new line of scarves to help keep me warm:

It's reversible and comes in several colors, including petrol, dark red, purple and black.  I chose the petrol shade which, as you can see, is a sort of teal:

It's actually not an infinity scarf, but I borrowed a trick from Jeans and a Teacup and fastened the ends together with a small rubber band so I could wear it as an infinity scarf.

In addition to the FRAAS scarf, I did wear double leopard with my sweater (Old Navy) and flats (Nine West).  I also added cuffed jeans (Lucky).

Pretty Dress, Awkward Photos

My dress is pretty.  My photos are awkward:

In my defense, it started to rain when we were taking these which made me sort of hunch-y, but damn, yeah, that's awkward.

The dress really is pretty though, see?

 

 I love a bold floral and the bits of orange in this one make me very happy indeed.

Also making me happy?  The fact that aside from the bracelet (Nordstrom), everything in this outfit was thrifted (dress, shoes, belt) or gifted (necklace).

Like A Pro

I've always wondered how other bloggers were able to layer button-up blouses under their dresses without looking lumpy.  Was  it a trick of the light?  Did they have the assistance of birds & mice to make it work?  Was there some sort of Hogwarts for Bloggers, a Blogwarts if you will, that taught them how to perform this bit of magic?

Turns out the answer to all of those is no (well, Blogwarts is a maybe).  Turns out that all you have to do is find the right dress and the right blouse and, et voila, you've layered like a Blogwarts-trained pro.  This weekend, I found the right dress:

I also added my vintage lion pin because, as I told you, I'm into big cats right now:

So, what makes this the right dress (for me)?  Well, it's a ponte knit, which means it's a heavier knit, which makes for smoother layering than a thin knit.  It's also a looser fit, which means there is room under it to add a blouse.  And, it has a flared skirt which gives extra room around my hips, which is where I need it most. 

And the blouse?  What makes it so great?  Well, it's very lightweight, practically sheer, which allows it to fit smoothly under the dress.  Also, it's mustard (hooray) and has a bow (double hooray).

Le Sportif

This outfit feels kind of sporty to me, what with it�s combination of rugby stripes, plaid and lace-up shoes:

Could I, in fact, play sports in this?  Hell no.  Unless, of course, �hobbled running� or �falling over� are sports, then I�d be a world champion for sure.

I like to think I�d also be a world champion at pattern mixing; I love the plaid skirt (vintage via Goodwill) paired with the striped sweater (Gap via Goodwill).  I also added a thrifted belt, Nine West booties (TJ Maxx) and burgundy tights (Hue).  It wasn�t actually cold enough for tights today, but I hadn�t shaved my legs (it�s winter, people, and I�m single) and I needed someplace to tuck my sweater.

Honestly, I don�t know how other bloggers tuck their sweaters and manage to remain so svelte.  Without the tights I looked like I was smuggling sausages in my undies.  I�m still a bit lumpy with the tights, but those could be Gracey-lumps, not sweater-lumps, so who knows?

Do any of you have any advice for tucking sweaters without looking like a smoked meats smuggler?  Or is it just foolhardy to try?

Football Attire and a FRAAS Review

As I mentioned before, I went to a Portland State football game this Saturday, which meant I had to wear proper football attire.  I decided on jeans and a sweatshirt:

Okay, so it was a lace sweatshirt, but I still say it counts.  In addition to my skinny jeans (Macys) and lace sweatshirt (Macys), I also wore riding boots (Born Crown via Nordstrom) and a leopard coat (consigned).  And, once I got to the game, where it was quite cold, I also wore my new Tech Gloves (c/o FRAAS):

I have to say that I was both excited and skeptical when FRAAS offered to send me these gloves.  Excited because I hate having to take of my gloves to use my phone and skeptical because I don�t know how knit gloves could possibly allow me to still use my phone.  I was also skeptical because these gloves are one-size-fits-all and I have giant hands (of course).

But, I did wear these on Saturday at the game, and they were fabulous.  They kept my hands warm, I was able to use my phone easily while wearing them, and as you can see above, they fit my man hands just fine.  And the teal goes with leopard.  A win all around.  Well, not all around, PSU lost to Eastern Washington, 34 to 41.  

Although I received the teal pair, the gloves come in several colors, from neutrals to jewel tones to brights:

Jumping the Gun

It was less than 80 degrees here in Oregon today, so I wore boots and a scarf:

Yes, I�m jumping the gun a bit for fall, but, unlike the Olympics, I think bloggers get two false starts, so I won�t be disqualified when fall actually arrives.  Besides, it�s still kind of summery because my dress (vintage, thrifted) is sleeveless, the infinity scarf (Plato�s Closet) is lightweight, and the boots (Steve Madden) are lighter colored.

Make no mistake though, I am ready for fall.  I�ve been Pinning fall outfits like crazy on my Fall Ready Already board, I�ve been longingly petting my riding boots and I�ve already started planning fall outfits.  All of this in spite of the fact that summer came late to Oregon; but, apparently two weeks of 90+ degree weather is all I need to be over summer.

Floral and Gray and Overusing Happy

First of all, let me say that you all are the best Reader Friends a gal could ask for.  Thank you so much for your comments on yesterday�s post, well, on all my posts, really.  Second of all, I finally discovered the impetus behind my ADD style.  I wear what makes me happy.  And not having a specific aesthetic means there is just more room for more things to make me happy.

Like today�s pants; today�s pants thrill me to no end:

They�re high-waisted to the point of hilarity (seriously, they�re up past my belly button), they�re floral (floral!) and, so far, pretty versatile.  Hilarious + Floral + Versatile = Happy Gracey. Last time I wore these pants I paired them with color.  Today, I paired the pants (thrifted Ralph Lauren) with a soft gray tee (Old Navy).  Okay, okay, and some color; I added teal flats (Target) because, yep, you guessed it, they make me happy.

P.S.  Does anyone else find �happy� to be an incredibly strange word?  I didn�t before, but I totally do now; I hope I haven�t ruined it for anyone.  How terrible would that be to be the blogger who ruined the word �happy�?!

A Passel of Printed Pants

One of the spring/summer trends I was most excited for this year was printed pants.  Apparently I was so excited that I ran out and purchased a whole passel of them.  Seriously, the Printed Plains in Nosh Opping is filled with printed pants.  Like this pair here:

I can�t help it; I really do love a printed pant.  I especially love the teal color and the irregular black dots on this pair.   I think the irregularity of the dots lend the pants a sort of leopard look from far away, and that�s always fun.  I paired today's printed pants (LOFT) with a tangerine top (Old Navy), espadrille wedges (Corso Como via Piperlime) and a few bracelets.

I don�t know why I have so many, but seeing them all in one place, I�m glad I found them.  They are all, except for this LOFT pair, thrifted, and this pair was less than $10.00, so it�s a trend that I was able to find for not a lot of money.  However, I still recognize that I have enough pairs of printed pants to last me so while I�m not getting rid of any, I also won�t be buying any more once my expedition is over.
