Pretty Dress, Awkward Photos

My dress is pretty.  My photos are awkward:

In my defense, it started to rain when we were taking these which made me sort of hunch-y, but damn, yeah, that's awkward.

The dress really is pretty though, see?

I love a bold floral and the bits of orange in this one make me very happy indeed.

Also making me happy?  The fact that aside from the bracelet (Nordstrom), everything in this outfit was thrifted (dress, shoes, belt) or gifted (necklace).

Happy Friday, All!

Burgundy & Blue

Were entering that confusing time of year here in Oregon where its really sunny and things are starting to bloom so you think maybe its Spring, but then, in the middle of your bike ride it drops 15 degrees and starts hailing.

As you can imagine, that sort of weather can be hard to dress for when you commute by bike.  Therefore, Im back to my old standby of dresses, cardigans, tights and riding boots:

What can I say?  It dries easily and is warm enough but not so warm that I overheat during the sunny moments.  Also, its easy to put on when you're to tired from staying up late reading the Game of Thrones books to think of anything else.

For todays version, I paired a blue dress (vintage Karin Stevens via Salvation Army) layered under a burgundy and blue cardigan (Gap Outlet).  Todays tights are burgundy and todays riding boots are Born Crown (Sosie via Nordstrom).  Et voila, simple, effective and quick-drying.

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

As Promised

I mentioned back in August, in this post, that the Dark Floral trend was one of my favorite trends for this season and one that Id definitely wear.  And here I am, wearing dark florals, as promised:

(Shop the look: Similar floral dress, similar belt, similar HUE tights and exact MIA boots)

Although I already own several dark floral pieces, I found this dress in Goodwill last weekend and couldnt resist adding it to my collection.  I love the color palette on this one (the pops of scarlet are especially fun) and think itll be a very versatile part of my cold weather wardrobe.  Today I wore the dress (vintage Breli Originals of California) with burgundy oxblood tights (Hue), a tri-color belt (via Goodwill) and low boots (MIA Roam via Piperlime).

Although there is no burgundy (or oxblood) in the print of the dress, I think the tights worked well with it.  And I suspect teal, navy, scarlet and purple tights will also work well.  See?  Versatile.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

This Outfit is Weird

It is.  I think its conceptually sound, but the execution was shaky:

(** Similar boots, sheer floral vintage dress, similar belt)

Allow me to explain.  It was finally boot weather here in Oregon, so of course I had to wear boots.  And I love wearing boots with dresses, so I had to wear a dress.  And the dress I chose is sheer so I had to wear a slip.  And Ive always wanted to try a dress with an exposed slip, so I selected a slip thats just a bit longer than the dress.  All that makes sense, right?

Well, heres where it fell apart.  I paired cognac boots (Steven Madden) and a belt (thrifted) with this dress (vintage Blair, thrifted) because I swear to goodness there is some cognac in the print:

But, not enough to notice from far away, making the look a little iffy.  Adding to the iffy-ness is the fact that I refused to iron the slip.  Because to me thats like ironing sheets.  Or jeans.  Ridiculousness.  (Unless, of course, you iron your sheets and jeans and then I totally respect your commitment to a wrinkle-free life).  So, yeah, not quite what I wanted.

Thats okay though, I gave it a shot and Im not mad that I did.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

That Old Fall Feeling

Its, finally, starting to feel like fall here in Oregon.  The mornings are getting chillier and Im almost to the point of wearing a light sweater for the ride in.  Honestly, though, that could just be because I want to wear sweaters; they are all Ive been thrifting lately.  Sadly, its still not sweater weather, but it is totally subdued, fall-like color weather so I dressed accordingly:

Yes, I do wear this dress all year long (because those are the best dresses) but I like it the most for fall.  The flowers have a delightful mossy, pile of leaves look to them and, for me, nothing says fall like moss and piles of leaves.  And mushrooms.  But, I digress.  Today I paired the dress (vintage) with a light gold belt (thrifted?) and shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction, v. old).  I also added my new cameo and garnet earrings (via Deepwood Vintage Fair) and a vintage cameo bracelet.

The stones are rough-cut, low-grade garnet.

As much as I like this dress with the flats, Id much rather be wearing it with boots.  I miss my boots, yall.  Theyre all on deck, freshly waterproofed and just waiting in the wings.  I swear, as soon as the temperature drops below 80, Im breaking them out.  And probably the sweaters too.  Basically, you should expect me to look overheated and uncomfortable in my photos for the next couple of weeks.

What about you, Dear Reader Friends?  What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Bird is the Word

Im actually surprised it took me as long as it did to put this outfit together:

I mean, really, what goes better together than birds and feathers?  Nothing, right?  Right.  So, yes, today I paired birds and feathers:

My dress (vintage, thrifted) provides the feather-print in this combo and the birds come from my ridiculously awesome scarf:

Those crazy birds.  What are they doing?!  I don't know, but I do know that I love this scarf and that I love it paired with this dress.  In addition to the birds and the feathers, I also wore a red belt (thrifted), ankle-strap flats (Hive & Honey via Piperlime) and a cuff (thrifted).

Because everything but the shoes is thrifted, Im linked up to Callies Thrifter Thursday Link Party.  Are you a thrifty blogger?  If so, come by Coffee and Cardigans and join the fun.

And have a fabulous Thursday, Everyone!

Oh, the hair.  I forgot.  I got my hair colored yesterday and my stylist also blew it out to better see the color.  As you may have noticed, I never wear my hair straight and dont think Ill keep this up for long (seriously, if its still straight tomorrow, itll be a Festivus Miracle).  It just doesnt feel like me.  Happily though, my outfit feels 100% me, so I was able to smile through the pain.
