Inspiration Monday: Olivia Palermo

Today, Im joining up with Two Birds and countless others for Inspiration Monday.  Our inspiration today is Olivia Palermo:

I have to admit that I dont really understand who she is or why shes famous.  Is she famous?  I dont think she has a sex tape, so probably not.  Anyway, what I do know about her is that she can definitely dress.  She always looks on trend without looking like shes a slave to trends.  Take the above outfit as an example; shes doing the global chic thing, but shes doing it her way.

And here I am, doing it my way:

I almost didnt participate today because I dont have a white dress (not for lack of trying though; I just canNOT find one I like).  And then I remembered that I have a white skirt (Ann Taylor) and a white shirt (Gap) so I wore those in lieu of a dress.

I finished the look with some layered necklaces and some self-tasseled sandals (Jeffrey Campbell via Nordstrom):

I STILL want a white dress, dammit, but I think thisll do in a pinch.

Happy Monday, All!

A Different Kind of Pinspiration

This outfit was inspired not by Pinterest, but by the pins on this outfit of the, well, fabulous, April, over at Knocked Up Fabulous:

Instead of a bright blue skirt (I think I packed mine for winter) I paired my cream sweater (thrifted, Goodwill) with my mocha-colored skirt (thrifted, Goodwill).  I also added black tights (Spanx via Nordstrom), belt (thrifted, Goodwill) and boots (thrifted, Goodwill) and an infinity scarf (Steve Madden via Macys).

And, of course, I added a vintage brooch cluster (all via Lil' Gypsy Vintage):

I like how the scarf ties in the black boots and tights and love the little pop of red from the floral brooch.  This is definitely something I'd wear again; perhaps next time with my blue skirt if I can remember where I put it.

Happy Wednesday, All!  And Happy New Year!

Inspired By: The Braided Bandit

The other day, Hannah of The Braided Bandit wore an adorable combination of a cropped plaid jacket and a floral blouse.  See?  Adorable!

At the time I didnt think Id be able to recreate the look because I didnt think I had the right pieces.  Happily, I was wrong:

As I was poking through my closet this morning, I found this gifted floral shirt (thanks, Mom!) and a cropped plaid jacket (vintage via Goodwill) of my own!  I paired my floral and plaid with skinny jeans (Old Navy) and black flats (Hive & Honey via Piperlime).  And I also added a black statement necklace, vintage bracelet (via Red Fox Vintage) and my new black & gold stud earrings that I won from Sarah at Just Take a Bow and bonnilu.

Thank you, Hannah, for the inspiration!  And thank you, Sarah and bonnilu for the awesome earrings!  And thank you, my Dearest Reader Friends, for visiting!

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Inspired By: Half-Naked Models and Hobbits

The majority of my outfit is inspired by this Guess ad:

And here is my version:

Luxury Rebel "Yuma" - Image via 6pm.com

As you can see, my brooding, half-naked male model failed to show and I went ahead and buttoned my shirt, but otherwise I think we can agree that I pretty much nailed this recreation.

For my version of the look, I paired a sheer, pleated skirt (Pleione via Nordstrom Rack) with a silk houndstooth blouse (Jones New York, thrifted).  I added my replacement black booties (Luxury Rebel Yuma via Piperlime), a vintage Monet bracelet (via Red Fox Vintage) and what I refer to as my Eye of Sauron belt (vintage, thrifted).

The name for the belt is inspired by this image from Lord of the Rings:

And yes, it does make my pelvis all-seeing; thank you for asking.

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

What Would Coco Wear?

I have no idea.  I realized when I signed up for Adrienne & Jills Chanel Inspired Challenge that I really didnt know that much about Chanel.  Im afraid I havent studied the history of fashion much (or at all) and I have only vague, half-formed ideas about what Chanel-inspired might mean.

And I think most of those ideas come from pop culture and a movie I saw where Audrey Tautou played Chanel.  From that movie, I learned that Coco liked pants:

 And striped shirts:

From pop culture, mostly this outfit from The Devil Wears Prada, I learned that today* Chanel means layered necklaces:

I took that very, very meager store of knowledge and came up with this:

I paired my black trousers (Vince Camuto via Nordstrom) with a striped shirt (Old Navy), a layered necklace (v. old) and pointy toe pumps (thrifted).   Yes, yes, I know; they should have chosen me instead of Audrey for that role.

To see more interpretations of Chanel-inspired style, visit Jill at Everything Just So.

And have a Happy Wednesday!

* Okay, not even today; that movie came out in 2006.
