Deepest, Darkest Jungle

I love the black background on this tropical print jacket.  It reminds me of the deepest, darkest jungle:

And its more appropriate for winter than a brighter tropical print might be.

I also love the Karina dress (Marisa, c/o Karina Dresses) that I paired it with.  This dress has been a closet workhorse since I received it a couple of years ago.  Its held its shape beautifully and is so easy to layer so it can be worn year round.  In addition to the jacket (vintage, gifted) and the dress, I also wore tights (Spanx via Nordstrom) and boots (Gap).  I also added coral statement necklace (via Piperlime) to complement the colors on the jacket.

Happy Thursday, All!

Shop the Look:
Similar jacket (And by similar I mean, vintage tropical print with a black background)
Similar Karina dress (It doesnt look like the Marisa is currently available, but I strongly recommend the Audrey for its similar cut).
Similar boots
Similar necklace

Pinspiration: Stripes and Tropical Florals

One of the trends I loved most this summer was bold, tropical prints.  That love led me to Pin this picture:

Pattern mixing with a tropical floral?  Yes, please!

When I first Pinned this look, I didnt have the pieces to recreate it.  But then, during my Nosh Opping Expedition, I saw the perfect jacket (with a matching skirt) at a local Goodwill.  Unfortunately, I couldnt buy it, what with the shopping ban and all, but my friend Alex, being the best friend ever, later went back and bought it for me!

And so, it is the result of my friends generosity that present to you my version of the above Pinspired look:

My jacket is vintage, thrifted and gifted (thanks, Alex!!) and my striped tee is Old Navy.  Cocoa-colored short shorts dont exist in my wardrobe so I wore rolled jeans (Gap Always Skinny, sized up) instead.  And I added a patent belt (Nine West), pointy-toe pumps (thrifted), a turquoise bracelet (gifted) and coral earrings (Crafty Wonderland).

Here is a close-up on the print on my jacket:

Now if I can just find a way to wear the matching skirt

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

FBFF for May 25th

Today's FBFF Questions are all about summer trends.  Katy Rose of Modly Chic has asked us what we are loving for the upcoming season.

Im actually loving pretty much the same trends for summer as I was for spring.  Weather-wise there isnt a huge difference between spring and summer weather in my part of Oregon so my summer wardrobe is essentially my spring wardrobe but with more sandals.

Here are some things I cant wait to wear this summer with sandals.

Tropical Prints

Im amused as all heck that tropical prints are back.  I like them because theyre kitschy and I love the kitsch, but I also like them because theyre so easy to thrift.  In fact, Ive already worn a thrifted, tropical print piece this year:

Printed Pants

Im sort of obsessed with this trend.  As I mentioned before, I know I probably shouldnt wear printed pants given the size and militancy of my thighs, but darned if I dont love them.  Ive thrifted a couple of pairs, including these that Ive already worn this spring:

Oh, look, more tropical print.  Well, I warned you...

Tangerine

Its the Pantone Color of the Year and, in my opinion, for good reason.  Its just so frickin vibrant.  See?:

Coral Belts

Okay, this isnt a trend, except in my wardrobe, but I love my skinny coral belt.  Ive worn it multiple times and will definitely be wearing it all summer long:

Neon

It took me a little while to get on board with neon last year, but Im glad it stuck around for another year.  I have a few pieces in my closet, mostly neon pink, mostly thrifted, and I cant wait to wear them.  Id also love a pair of neon shoes, like one of the pairs below.

Or even a pair with just a little bit of neon, like these:

Kitschy Print #17

This dress is just further evidence that I love myself a kitschy print:

I feel justified with this one because I swear more than one fashion magazine said tropical prints were in.  So, Im totally fashion-forward with this.  Not buying it?  Fine, I just like kitschy prints.  Todays was thrifted and hemmed by yours truly.  Before I hemmed it, the dress was that awkward length between a midi and a maxi and it was a lot of kitsch, even for me.  Now, its just the perfect amount.

I paired the dress with a coral belt (Steven Madden via Ross) because Ive decided to wear this belt with everything this summer.  And I added pewter sandals (Lovely People via Ideeli) instead of heels to keep the beach-y feel of the dress and because my tootsies still hurt from my night of wild 80s dancing on Friday.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and a happy Monday!

Love the Outfit, Hate the Photos

You know those days where you feel great in an outfit right up until the point where you see the pictures?  I think Im having one of those days.  I think maybe I had one of those days yesterday too.  I thought it was the sun, but its overcast today and I still cant seem to photograph worth a damn.

Dont worry though; todays post isnt another photo-free post.  This is what I wore today:

Seriously, yall, I adoredthis outfit when I left the house this morning.  I love the crazy print and the high waist of the pants (silk, thrifted).  And I love this sweater (Old Navy) for its lovely color, open-weave and button-back:

And I love the two together and with the nude platform sandals (Banana Republic).

But I do not love the photos.  At all.  I dont think its the outfit; though it could be, Im not sure high-waists are my thing.  Really though, I think its me.  Work has been hectic which makes me feel unsettled and unable to just relax and take a picture.  Im just flat out twitchy.

Oh, well.  Whats a girl to do, right?  Right.

Happy Tuesday, All!
