Knotted

As you know, I love me a striped shirt; I even recommended them in my wardrobe workhorses post.  And this vertically striped shirt is definitely one of my favorites.  So, I was pretty excited to find another way to wear it; knotted at the bottom:

It's pretty over-sized so I usually wear it tucked, but today I undid the last button and tied it up.  I like that it alters the shape of the shirt into something more interesting than a straight-across hem.  ?

In addition to the striped shirt (vintage, thrifted), I am also wearing another of my recommended wardrobe workhorses; dark pants.  In this case, a pair of black twill skinnies (Simply Vera Vera Wang via Kohl's (similar here)).  I added a neutral statement necklace (c/o Maurice's) but colorful shoes (Nine West via TJ Maxx).

And I don't mean to be smug, but I'm pretty sure this outfit totally justifies the inclusion of these items on my list.

Happy Monday, All!

Classic

I apologize for my unexpected absence yesterday.  Like a Hollywood starlet, I was suffering from exhaustion.  Although, in my case, exhaustion is not a euphemism for an eating disorder (obviously).  I was just really, really tired.  I had a long weekend full of high school basketball state championship games, birthday parties and pre-dawn trips to the airport.  And on top of the week I had last week, it was a bit much and I needed rest.

So, rest I did, but Im back now.  And Im wearing clothes.  And those clothes are pretty classic:

Even though I dont have the most classic aesthetic, I still really like this look.  I think probably because it contains neon (necklace via Target) and cap toe shoes (Bandolino via DSW).  Im pretty convinced that neon goes with everything and cap toe shoes are the best shoes since riding boots.  I also love these jeans (Banana Republic Skinny) and this blouse (thrifted via Value Village).

I have to say, I think its hard to go wrong with stripes.  They are classic, but theyre also fun.  Win-win.

Happy Tuesday, All!

Matchy-Matchy vs. Clashy-Clashy

I considered wearing red skinny jeans with this color-blocked sweater:

But, that would have been too matchy-matchy for my tastes.  Given the choice, I usually prefer to be clashy-clashy rather than matchy-matchy.  There may be some deep-seeded psychological reason behind that preference; such as Im afraid to look too put together lest people start to expect it from me, but mostly I think its just that Im drawn to riotous color.

Like the bright mustard yellow color of these cords:

These cords (Gap) make me happy and it made me happy today to pair them with this color-blocked sweater (Old Navy) and my all-time-favorite boots (Born Crown Sosie via Nordstrom).  I also added some bracelets and a watch that could serve to tie the look together if one was insistent on that sort of thing.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Do you tend towards matchy-matchy or clashy-clashy?

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!
