A Faux-Mono & A Sartorial Superhero

I love turtlenecks.  They are one of my favorite layering pieces because they can be layered under almost anything, including bird-print faux-mono (faux kimono) blouses:

In fact, this faux-mono blouse was on the chopping block until I realized I could wear it (like most things) over a turtleneck.  And its a good thing, too.  This top is otherwise just so sheer and flow-y, I had no idea what to do with it.  But, today, I layered the top (Nordstrom) over a black turtleneck (Gap) and tied the flow-y bits behind me:

I also added a pleated skirt (vintage via Goodwill), black tights (SPANX Tight End Tights via Nordstrom) and black, wedge booties (Corso Como Lexy via Nordstrom).  And, et voila, another blouse saved from disuse, thanks to the intervention of a turtleneck.

Turtlenecks.  Theyre totally the superheroes of the sartorial world.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Put a Stick Pin in It

This dress is too big.  It always has been but I usually belt it.  Today, though, I decided to put a stick pin in it:

Which was surprisingly really very easy.  I just gathered the excess fabric to the left and worked a stick pin through the folds.  I did have to try it a couple of times to get it where I wanted it, but Im really pleased with how it turned out.  Here is a close up (please to ignore the lint):

I layered the dress over a striped tee (J. Crew), added cuffed boots (Gap), polka dot socks (Target), a tassel necklace (Old Navy), Nikki Jacoby earrings and a cuff (thrifted).

Also, last time I wore these boots, a side-view was requested, so here that is:

And I think thats it for me.  I have a pretty busy weekend planned, including a Stone in Love concert.  Stone in Love is a very good local Journey cover band and they are so much fun to watch.  We are watching them at the Star Theater in Portland and here is a video from last year's show at the Aladdin:

Happy Friday, Everyone!  Have a wonderful weekend!!

Signature Silhouette

I may not have a signature style but I would be willing to claim this silhouette as my signature silhouette:

Im not claiming this is the most flattering silhouette for everyone, Im saying its the silhouette myparticular body feels the most comfortable in.  Although, I think one of the reasons I feel so comfortable in it is because I do feel like it flatters me.  For me, a full skirt, defined waist, fitted top and heels is fail-safe.  Made of win, if you will.

Todays winning outfit is a vintage, pleated skirt in bright poppy (thifted) paired with a navy- and white-striped tee (Target), bright, multicolored belt (Target), platform sandals (Banana Republic Natalie) and a few bracelets.  And seriously?  I love it.

Do you have a signature silhouette, Dear Reader Friends?  If so, what is it?

Happy Tuesday, All!
